There is an often-overlooked potential risk in digital advertising that businesses need to be aware of.
The risk that you might be restricted from advertising on a platform (such as Google Ads, Meta Ads or whatever) and for potentially no good reason.
More importantly, if this did happen, what would be the impact on your business?
This has happened to me in the past. For example, I once logged in to Facebook to find that the moderation algorithm/AI had taken umbrage with a post I had made on a page. This post was about a year old by this point in time (in other words it had sat there with absolutely no issue) and from where I was sat it was completely inoffensive.
However, that post being retroactively picked up by the Meta/Facebook algo resulted in my personal profile being restricted from running any ads for 60 days. Support, as you'd expect, was non-existent and anybody I could reach was as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
In my experience Meta is the worst for this - particularly as most users of the platform don't realise that if you receive some sort of "infringement" on the personal side it can affect your ability to use the business functions AND the moderation system seems to have a mind of its own (I got pinged the other day albeit with no ad restrictions for a post made in 2014 ... 10 whole years ago) - but all of the platforms, big and small, can have issues.
For example, I've seen advertisers restricted from Google Ads due to the advertiser cancelling their credit card (e.g. in event of fraud) and then forgetting to put the new card in Google Ads before the old one gets charged - no intent of not paying, just an honest oversight.
The fundamental problem with all these digital platforms typically being that they rely heavily on algorithms/AI to manage transgressions, and if something does go wrong you are stuck with typically non-existent or otherwise useless support.
The crux of the matter, therefore, is are you aware of these risks AND what would the impact be on your business if (for example) you awoke tomorrow to find all your Google/Meta/LinkedIn/whatever platform ads were stopped because some power-tripping line of code decided - probably incorrectly - that you had committed an unforgiveable digital sin?
My experience is most don't think about this until it is too late.
