Digital Marketing Strategy

You’re Doing Plenty Of Digital Activity. But Is It Taking You Anywhere?

Give Your Digital Marketing A Clear Direction

Perhaps you’re running Google Ads, posting on social media, paying for SEO and sending the occasional email newsletter.

Everybody is busy. Money is being spent. Reports arrive each month.

But when you step back, it’s difficult to explain how all of this fits together - or whether you’re putting your time and money into the right things.

This is a common problem. Businesses accumulate marketing activity over time, like lone socks pile up in the washing basket.

An agency recommends a new channel, a competitor launches something, or a software provider promises to make life easier. Eventually, you have a lot going on without a particularly clear reason for doing it.

I help you work out which customers and opportunities to focus on, how digital marketing can help you reach them, and what your business needs to do to make that happen.

Digital Marketing Strategy - Built Around Your Business

Start With What You Want To Achieve

A useful strategy starts with understanding your business.

What are you trying to grow? Which products, services or customers are most valuable? Where do new customers currently come from? What can you realistically invest, and who is available to do the work?

Those answers should shape the marketing recommendations.

For example, generating more enquiries may achieve very little if they are for work you don’t want, from customers you can’t profitably serve, or arriving faster than your sales team can follow up.

My job is to help you make sensible choices about where to focus - including what to stop doing or leave until later.

Recommendations You Can Make A Decision On

I’m an independent consultant. I don’t sell websites or software, and I don’t receive commissions from platforms.

That gives me the freedom to recommend an approach based on your business, budget and resources. That might involve improving what you already have, investing in a new opportunity, or reducing the number of things you are trying to do.

I can help with implementation where appropriate, but there is no obligation to engage me beyond the strategy project.

What’s Involved?

  1. Understanding Your Business And Customers

I work with you and relevant people in your business to understand your goals, offer, target customers, buying process and commercial constraints. This provides the context for everything that follows.

  2. Reviewing Your Starting Point

I assess your current marketing activity and available performance data to establish what appears to be working, where there are gaps, and which assumptions need testing. If a particular channel needs a deeper audit, we can agree that as part of the scope.

  3. Deciding Where To Focus

We establish the priority audiences, offers and channels, and how they will work together to attract and convert suitable customers. You’ll understand the reasoning behind the recommendations and the trade-offs involved.

  4. Building A Practical Implementation Plan

You receive a prioritised plan covering what to do, in what order, and who needs to be involved. I help you consider budgets, internal capacity and any specialist support required, so the recommendations are realistic for your business.

  5. Agreeing How To Measure Progress

We identify the measures that will help you judge whether the strategy is working. Depending on your business, these might include qualified enquiries, customer acquisition costs, sales or repeat purchases. Where tracking is incomplete, the plan will account for that too.

Who Is This For?

This service is a good fit if you:

  • Have plenty of marketing activity but little confidence in the overall direction.
  • Want to grow and need help deciding where to invest.
  • Are entering a new market or launching a product or service.
  • Need your internal team and external providers working towards the same priorities.
  • Want an independent assessment before committing to a significant marketing investment.

You receive a documented strategy and accompanying implementation priorities, with a discussion of the recommendations. You can put these into action with your existing team, external specialists, or further support from me.

Let’s Work Out Where To Focus

Tell me what you want to achieve, what you’re currently doing, and where you feel stuck. I’ll help establish what a strategy project should cover and provide a quote for the agreed scope.

I’m based in Christchurch and work with businesses throughout New Zealand and overseas. We can meet locally or arrange a video call.
